Bacalar Chico National Park and Marine Reserve is located on the most northern tip of the island Ambergris Caye, twenty two miles off Belize's coastline, and is only accessible by boat.
Bacalar Chico headquarter is located on the north western coastline of Ambergris Caye. The building is situated in a clearing of the forest and mangroves near to the Chetumal Bay giving them a central position from which to patrol and conduct surveys within the park and reserve, as well as giving the most efficient access route to the nearest town, San Pedro. Other than San Pedro, Ambergris Caye is sparsely populated with either fishermen's huts or holiday homes.
